Mr. President:

Your EDUCATION COMMITTEE, to whom has been referred

has had it under consideration and reports same with recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows:

1. On page 2, line 19, strike "Effective July 1, 1999, school" and insert in lieu thereof "School".

2. On page 2, line 21, strike "or" and insert in lieu thereof "and shall annually administer".

3. On page 11, between lines 10 and 11, insert the following new section to read:

"Section 6. TEMPORARY PROVISION.--Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 22-1-6 NMSA 1978, school districts shall continue to administer an approved norm-referenced test until a standards-based assessment is approved by the state department of public education as provided in that section.".

4. Renumber the succeeding section accordingly.
