REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY TO HONOR THE MEMORIES OF STATE POLICE OFFICERS DAMON TALBOTT AND RAMON ROBERT SOLIS BY NAMING THE DISTRICT III STATE POLICE HEADQUARTERS IN ROSWELL AFTER THEM.
WHEREAS, state police officers Ramon Robert Solis and Damon Talbott were killed in the line of duty on October 19, 2001 in a helicopter crash following a training exercise; and
WHEREAS, Officers Solis and Talbott were classmates in the sixty-fourth New Mexico state police recruit school and were based in their hometown of Roswell; and
WHEREAS, Officer Talbott, at twenty-one years of age, became the youngest New Mexico state police officer killed in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, Officers Solis and Talbott personified the selfless dedication to service of the New Mexico state police and the men and women who are its officers; and
WHEREAS, the department of public safety should honor the memories of Officers Solis and Talbott by naming the state police headquarters building in their hometown of Roswell after them;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the department of public safety be requested to honor the memories of Officers Solis and Talbott by naming the state police district III headquarters in Roswell after them in recognition of their service to the residents of New Mexico; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of public safety.
