REQUESTING THAT NEW MEXICO HISTORY WITH AN EMPHASIS ON LAND GRANTS AND NATIVE AMERICAN HISTORY BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOLS.

WHEREAS, a society that forgets its past may be prone to repeat it; and

WHEREAS, knowledge of our past is essential for us to understand our present and to forge our future; and

WHEREAS, New Mexico's history is deeply affected by its land grant heritage, relations among its various peoples and the legacy of the Native Americans;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that New Mexico history with an emphasis on land grants and Native American history be taught in schools.
