A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE SANTA FE COMMUNITY FOUNDATIONS ON ITS TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY.



WHEREAS, the Santa Fe community foundation's mission is to build and manage its permanent community endowment funds to provide grants that enhance the quality of life in Santa Fe and northern New Mexico, now and for future generations; and

WHEREAS, the foundation was established in 1981 as a tax-exempt public charity to provide an avenue for donors to satisfy their charitable intents and for nonprofit organizations to receive funding that enables them to carry out their essential work; and

WHEREAS, the foundation receives funds from individuals, families, estates, other foundations and organizations, and those individual gifts are pooled into permanent funds, and only the income from the funds is disbursed, while the principal remains untouched forever; and

WHEREAS, as of July 2001, the foundation is home to one hundred eighteen funds from which one million four hundred thousand dollars ($1,400,000) in grants were awarded to two hundred thirty-five nonprofit organizations in the year 2000; and

WHEREAS, the funds target five areas of need: the arts, civic affairs, education, environment and health and human services;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the Santa Fe community foundation be recognized for its contributions and service to the community on its twentieth anniversary; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the board of the Santa Fe community foundation.
