A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THOSE FIREFIGHTERS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE WORLD TRADE CENTER RESCUE EFFORTS.



WHEREAS, firefighters and law enforcement officers in New York City responded immediately to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center; and

WHEREAS, when people run away from disasters, firefighters and law enforcement officers selflessly run toward them in an effort to save lives; and

WHEREAS, firefighters began climbing stairs in the World Trade Center because hoses and ladders could not reach the eightieth floor that burned with eighteen-hundred-degree flames; and

WHEREAS, law enforcement officers began securing the buildings and helping people evacuate to safety amidst falling debris; and

WHEREAS, over four hundred firefighters and law enforcement officers lost their lives in the call of duty;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that those heroic and loyal public servants who made the ultimate sacrifice be honored; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the fire department of New York City and the New York City police department along with the heartfelt sympathies of the state of New Mexico.
