EXPRESSING CONDOLENCES OF THE SENATE TO THE FAMILY OF ALFRED G. MARCHAND OF ALAMOGORDO, WHO WAS KILLED BY TERRORISTS IN THE WORLD TRADE CENTER ATTACK.
WHEREAS, Alfred G. Marchand, a resident of Alamogordo, was a flight attendant on one of the aircraft that was highjacked and crashed into the World Trade Center; and
WHEREAS, Al retired after twenty-one years of service with the Alamogordo department of public safety; and
WHEREAS, while serving his community, he was promoted to sergeant in 1987, was the first narcotics officer assigned to the Otero county narcotics enforcement unit in 1990, was promoted to lieutenant in 1993 and retired in 2001; and
WHEREAS, he was a highly decorated officer, being awarded Officer of the Year in 1982, the combat cross, three exceptional duty awards, five honorable service awards, five grand cordon citations and a director's commendation; and
WHEREAS, he began work as a flight attendant after retiring from the department of public safety; and
WHEREAS, he married Rebecca Frazier in 1997 and was the father of three children; and
WHEREAS, he was warm, kind and gentle with all people but especially with children, whom he liked to play the clown, and he will be sorely missed by the whole community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that condolences be expressed to the family, friends and community of Alfred G. Marchand, a loving and devoted New Mexican; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to Rebecca Marchand and the Alamogordo department of public safety.
