A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE NEW MEXICO LABOR DEPARTMENT TO NAME THE LABOR DEPARTMENT BUILDING IN LAS VEGAS, NEW MEXICO, IN HONOR OF ELOY LUDI IN RECOGNITION OF HIS YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE LABOR DEPARTMENT AND TO THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO.



WHEREAS, Eloy Ludi served the New Mexico labor department for forty-three years in Las Vegas, New Mexico; and

WHEREAS, on December 6, 1996, Eloy Ludi resigned from his appointment as a member of the labor department board of review because he was diagnosed with terminal lymphoid leukemia, and he passed away on May 22, 2000; and

WHEREAS, Eloy Ludi performed many outstanding services for and was dedicated to the labor department as area director for the counties of San Miguel, Mora and Guadalupe; and

WHEREAS, Eloy Ludi was solely responsible for the dynamic leadership in securing Kearney park from the city of Las Vegas to enable building of the first state-owned labor department building in New Mexico; and

WHEREAS, because of Eloy Ludi's active participation in civic organizations, such as the Las Vegas rotary club, elks club, knights of Columbus and others, and his efforts to help the people of the state of New Mexico, it is right and proper to recognize his major contributions to the labor department by naming the Las Vegas labor department building in his honor; and

WHEREAS, Eloy Ludi worked under thirteen governors and seventeen cabinet secretaries, receiving fifty-five commendations and plaques, of which nineteen were veteran service awards, with the most prestigious award, the "Paul Harris Award", bestowed by the rotary club; and

WHEREAS, many distinguished people and organizations in the Las Vegas community and around the state support honoring Eloy Ludi by naming the labor department building in Las Vegas after Mr. Ludi;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico labor department be requested to name the labor department building in Las Vegas, New Mexico, the "Eloy Ludi Labor Department Building" in recognition of his many years of dedicated, faithful and devoted service to the labor department, the people of the community of Las Vegas and all of the state of New Mexico; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of labor.
