EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR THE PRESIDENT AND FOR CONGRESSIONAL ACTION IN RESPONSE TO THE ACT OF WAR AGAINST THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2001.
WHEREAS, almost 5,000 people were murdered on September 11, 2001 when aggressors, as yet unconfirmed to be middle eastern terrorists, attacked the United States of America by hijacking four aircraft and crashing them into the World Trade Center towers in New York and into the Pentagon; and
WHEREAS, certain terrorists have vowed to kill as many Americans as possible by any means possible; and
WHEREAS, the safety and the security of all Americans have been threatened; and
WHEREAS, a state of war, therefore, exists between the United States of America and an enemy that will be difficult to identify and defend against; and
WHEREAS, there will be a high price in lives and material resources to wage this war successfully; and
WHEREAS, this war, as stated by several national and international leaders, is indeed a war to defend democracy, liberty and civilized behavior itself;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the president and the congress are supported by this house in taking whatever action necessary to defend our nation and citizens against our enemy and to appropriate the resources necessary to vanquish that enemy; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the president and to the New Mexico congressional delegation.
