45th legislature - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - first session, 2001

REQUESTING THAT THE SENATE EXPRESS ITS CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY OF JOE MARGARITO HOLCOMB.

WHEREAS, Joe Margarito Holcomb was an "Independence Day baby", born in 1923 in Dawson, New Mexico, where he spent the first eight years of his life; and

WHEREAS, Joe's family moved thereafter to Springer, where he was raised, graduating from Springer high school, before joining the army during World War II, where he served his country in Europe, North Africa and Italy; and

WHEREAS, Joe returned from the service to Albuquerque, where he lived until the Korean War, when he enlisted and served in the Marshall Islands and Nevada; and

WHEREAS, when he lived in Albuquerque, he met his sweetheart and future wife, Sally Chacon, and married her on February 11, 1953; and

WHEREAS, as a young couple, they spent the early part of their marriage in Nevada and later moved back to Albuquerque, where they raised their sons, Louie and Danny, and daughter Teresa; and

WHEREAS, Joe worked at Sandia national laboratories for twenty years until his retirement, whereupon he began to work for the New Mexico legislature in 1988 and continued working for each legislative session until his death in November 2000; and

WHEREAS, although Joe was a very quiet and modest person, he was very caring and had a unique sense of humor and a little wry smile that always kept people guessing, trying to figure him out; and

WHEREAS, Joe was positive about every situation that came his way and never had a bad word to say about anyone he met, including Republicans!;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that condolences be extended to Joe Holcomb's wife Sally, their children Louie, Danny and Teresa and their granddaughters Lea, Sonia and Megan over the loss of their husband, father, grandfather and our good friend; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to Sally and her children, with our sympathies for their loss.
