REQUESTING THE STATE AGENCY ON AGING TO LEAD AND DIRECT THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN ELDER CAMPUS FOR COMPREHENSIVE LONG-TERM CARE SERVICES, INDEPENDENT LIVING, LIFELONG EDUCATION, WELLNESS AND RESEARCH.
WHEREAS, the state agency on aging has been asked by public and private entities to lead and direct the development of an elder campus for comprehensive long-term care services, independent living, lifelong education, wellness and research; and
WHEREAS, such a wellness and research center must be designed to offer health professionals and paraprofessionals with the latest state-of-the-art information and training on chronic illness, disability and geriatric care and support; and
WHEREAS, the demand for innovative, comprehensive programs and interventions that address the long-term care needs of New Mexicans shall only continue to increase as the population ages in place;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state agency on aging be requested to lead and direct the development of an elder campus that embraces the concepts of community, health, neighborhood housing, education, wellness and research, involving experts from the public and private sector. Partners shall include, but not be limited to, the interagency committee on long-term care, Sandia national laboratories, members of the New Mexico congressional delegation and interested private housing and health organizations; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the director of the state agency on aging, the interagency committee on long-term care, Sandia national laboratories and members of the New Mexico congressional delegation.
