A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR'S OFFICE TO STUDY THE MANNER IN WHICH HUNTING LICENSES AND LANDOWNER PERMITS ARE AUTHORIZED AND DISTRIBUTED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF GAME AND FISH.



WHEREAS, hunting is a sport participated in by many of New Mexico's citizens; and

WHEREAS, the department of game and fish distributes all hunting licenses and landowner permits; and

WHEREAS, many state resident hunters are unable to secure a particular desired hunting license or landowner permit each year;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the lieutenant governor's office be requested to study the manner in which the department of game and fish authorizes and distributes hunting licenses, special drawings for hunting licenses and landowner permits; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the study include an evaluation of any committee formed to oversee the distribution of such licenses and permits and any procedures adopted to distribute such licenses and permits; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the lieutenant governor's office report its findings to the legislature by December 30, 2002; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the director of the state game commission and the lieutenant governor's office.
