A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT, THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE AND THE VILLAGE OF PECOS TO COOPERATE CLOSELY TO ENSURE THE IMPROVEMENTS TO STATE ROAD 63, A TRANSPORTATION CORRIDOR EXTENDING FROM INTERSTATE 25 INTO THE PECOS RIVER VALLEY.

WHEREAS, state road 63 is a transportation corridor extending from interstate 25 into the Pecos river valley; and

WHEREAS, state road 63 is under the jurisdiction of the state highway and transportation department; and

WHEREAS, a portion of state road 63 traverses through what is now known as Pecos national park; and

WHEREAS, the Pecos national park is under the jurisdiction of the federal national park service; and

WHEREAS, the bridge crossing the Glorieta creek, located within the park boundaries, has been declared as functionally obsolete; and

WHEREAS, state road 63 is a transportation link vital to the economic viability of the village of Pecos and the safety of travelers to the park and the national forest; and

WHEREAS, a project has been proposed that would improve a three and four-tenths mile segment of state road 63 through the park, including the replacement of the bridge; and

WHEREAS, the development and construction of the proposed improvements require close cooperation between the state highway and transportation department, the national park service and the village of Pecos;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that adoption of this resolution hereby supports the improvements to state road 63 and requests the mentioned parties to work diligently in concert to develop and construct improvements to state road 63; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the state highway and transportation department, the national park service and the village of Pecos.
