REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT TO ASSESS THE CONDITION OF ROADS IN VALENCIA COUNTY AND REPORT TO THE LEGISLATURE ITS FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS.

WHEREAS, winter is a time of extreme wear on the state's road and highway infrastructure; and

WHEREAS, conditions of roadways throughout the state are deteriorating due to weather; and

WHEREAS, conditions of roads in Valencia county may be particularly troublesome;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state highway and transportation department be requested to assess the condition of roadways in Valencia county and report its findings, including cost estimates for repairs and improvements and its recommendations, to the appropriate committee of the legislature by November 1, 2001; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the state highway commission and the secretary of highway and transportation.
