REQUESTING THE STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION AND THE STATE HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT TO CONTINUE PROVIDING FUNDING TO LINE THE ARROYO DE LA MANTECA IN LAS VEGAS, NEW MEXICO.
WHEREAS, the arroyo de la Manteca runs from the Creston to the Gallinas river on the west side of Las Vegas; and
WHEREAS, as part of the main drainage system on the west side of Las Vegas, the arroyo de la Manteca carries a large quantity of water; and
WHEREAS, the arroyo de la Manteca runs for about seven miles and because of erosion it has silted in and does not carry the water from its drainage area as effectively as it should; and
WHEREAS, the lining of the arroyo de la Manteca began several years ago, and to prevent destruction of that work, to prevent further erosion and to define the channel so that water can more effectively move through the arroyo, the project should be continued;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state highway commission and the state highway and transportation department be urged to provide funds to continue the work on the arroyo de la Manteca to prevent further erosion and to define the channel of the arroyo; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the state highway commission and the secretary of highway and transportation.
