REQUESTING THAT THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF VALENCIA COUNTY DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A TRASH ABATEMENT PLAN.

WHEREAS, the board of county commissioners of Valencia county has demonstrated its desire to protect the health and welfare of its citizens by addressing the problem of inappropriate dumping and accumulation of trash in the county; and

WHEREAS, the population of Valencia county is growing rapidly and the trash problem is increasing; and

WHEREAS, the board of county commissioners of Valencia county is best suited to address the trash problem by finding a solution created at the local level with local needs addressed and with due regard for the changing nature of the county;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the board of county commissioners of Valencia county be requested to study the trash problem in the county and begin implementation of a comprehensive solution; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the board of county commissioners of Valencia county report its findings and progress to the house of representatives by January 15, 2002; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the board of county commissioners of Valencia county.
