A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE NEW MEXICO MUNICIPAL LEAGUE AND THE NEW MEXICO ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES TO STUDY THE NEED FOR THE USE OF CONSISTENT STATEWIDE ZONING CLASSIFICATION NOMENCLATURE.

WHEREAS, currently many local governments within the state do not use zoning classifications or use zoning classification nomenclature that is inconsistent with that used by other local governments; and

WHEREAS, the non-use or inconsistent use of zoning classification nomenclature is often confusing and makes it difficult for commercial and residential developers to knowledgeably plan for the use and development of land located in multiple zoning jurisdictions; and

WHEREAS, it may be beneficial to have uniformity and consistency throughout the state in the use of zoning classification nomenclature; and

WHEREAS, municipalities in the state, through the New Mexico municipal league and the New Mexico association of counties, have the expertise and knowledge required to study the need for uniformity in the use of zoning classification nomenclature in the state;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the New Mexico municipal league and the New Mexico association of counties be requested to study the need for uniformity in the use of zoning classification nomenclature; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the New Mexico municipal league and the New Mexico association of counties report their findings to an appropriate interim committee and the legislature prior to December 1, 2001; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the New Mexico municipal league and the New Mexico association of counties.
