REQUESTING THE MOTOR VEHICLE DIVISION OF THE TAXATION AND REVENUE DEPARTMENT TO REVISE THE NEW MEXICO DRIVER LICENSE MANUAL TO INCLUDE RULES FOR USE OF TRAFFIC ROUNDABOUTS.
WHEREAS, the county of Los Alamos has constructed and is utilizing a modern traffic roundabout, commonly called a traffic circle; and
WHEREAS, the state highway and transportation department is evaluating the design of a traffic roundabout to be installed in the village of Corrales in Sandoval county; and
WHEREAS, the current edition of the New Mexico driver license manual, the document used to educate New Mexico drivers on the rules of the road, does not contain a diagram, description or written rules for traversing a traffic roundabout; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico drivers deserve current information on modern highway structures to ensure safe passage on New Mexico roads;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the motor vehicle division of the taxation and revenue department be requested to develop a revision to the New Mexico driver license manual that includes diagrams, descriptions and written rules to allow drivers to negotiate traffic roundabouts safely and efficiently; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the director of the motor vehicle division of the taxation and revenue department.
