SM21 requests the Department of Public Safety to act as lead agency in reviewing the systems and processes for background checks for all state and local agencies, boards and commissions.
Significant Issues
DPS has experienced growth pains in the past few years. In order to protect the public, numerous agencies state and local statutes currently requiring criminal background checks. The administrative burden has been tremendous.
