Synopsis of SFC Amendment
The Senate Finance Committee amendment to Senate Joint Resolution 8 adds the update of the specified voting age in the state constitution to conform to the requirements of the Constitution of the United States.
Synopsis of Original Bill
Senate Joint Resolution 8 proposes to amend Article 7, Section 1 of the New Mexico Constitution to allow convicted felons the right to vote for public officers.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The bill does not contain an appropriation. Because of the proposed constitutional amendment, the is a fiscal impact of $30.0 to the Secretary of State, who is required to provide various entities with printed copies of the proposed amendment. Also, the proposed amendment must be published in various newspapers and publications, and must be published in a variety of languages, including Spanish and different Native American languages. The agency should be able to absorb the costs associated with the proposed constitutional amendment.
