SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
SJM 20 requires the State Department of Education (SDE), in cooperation with school district superintendents and school bus contractors, to study the feasibility of including additional site characteristics in the public school transportation formula and to examine the impact of charter schools and before- and after-school programs on transportation funding.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
SJM 20 would have no fiscal implications, other than the staff time necessary to coordinate and manage this study. The SDE reports that they can absorb these costs.
RELATIONSHIP
SJM 20 relates to HB 9, which would change the transportation operational formula by amending the hold harmless provision and extending the hold harmless provision until the end of FY 04.
