SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Joint Memorial 22 resolves that SDE and DOH examine the relationship between the absence of sex education in middle and high schools, and the high teen pregnancy rate in New Mexico.

Significant Issues

SDE indicates that research shows that sex education does not increase sexual activity. Also, due to the research on effective sex education that already exists, inferences can be drawn through a study such as the one requested in SJM22.
