SUMMARY



     Synopsis of SEC Amendment



Senate Education Committee amended Senate Bill 374. The amendment charges the requirement of parents to notify the school district of the establishment of a home school, and makes them notify the state superintendent of the establishment of a home school and the continuation of that have school by April 1st of each year in writing.



Synopsis of Original Bill



Senate Bill 374 amends Section 22-1-2.1 NMSA 1978, relating to home school requirements:



Significant Issues



-The bill proposes to remove the yearly notification of the continuation of a home school with the district once the home school is initially established;



-It removes the responsibility of the parent to furnish attendance records or disease immunization or a waiver of it to the school; and,



-It removes the testing requirement of home school students.



FISCAL IMPLICATIONS



Senate Bill 374 does not contain an appropriation.



ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS



According to SDE, yearly notification to parents to notify the district of the home school continuation would not be needed.
