SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
Senate Bill 32 appropriates $400.0 from the general fund to the Board of Regents of New Mexico State University (NMSU) for the Southwest and Border Cultures Institute to match a Challenge Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Significant Issues
Funding in this bill is intended to support four NMSU departments for research and public outreach projects in Native American, Hispanic, United States-Mexico border and general southwestern issues.
According to the Commission for Higher Eduction (CHE) listing of special funding requests submitted in the FY01 Regular Session, NMSU did not request funding for this program and the CHE did not recommend this appropriation.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $400.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY02 shall revert to the general fund.
