Synopsis of Bill

House Memorial 8 honors New Mexico's many career and technical education student organizations that contribute to our State's well-being and healthy future.

Significant Issues

New Mexico's Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) are recognized and honored in this bill.

According to the State Department of Education, each of the six nationally recognized CTSO's in New Mexico targets a specific student or course of study. All of them are co-curricular in nature and directly support academic integration and strong work ethics. Each organization is described below:

•DECA attracts students who are interested in preparing for entrepreneurial, marketing or management careers.

•FFA is a school-based part of agricultural education programs in public schools.

•Business Professionals of America is a national student organization for students enrolled in business, office, and technology education programs at the middle school, secondary school, and post-secondary school levels.

•Family, Career and Community Leaders of America helps youth assume active roles in society as wage earners, community leaders and family members.

•Skills USA-VICA is a national organization serving high school and college students and instructors who are enrolled in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations.

•The Technology Student Association serves technology education students at the elementary, intermediate and high school levels.

This bill has no fiscal impact.
