SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

A joint memorial recognizing that over 19 percent of the New Mexico population is comprised of persons with disabilities and that programs for these individuals need vigilant attention so that these individuals can independently live and work in their communities. The memorial recognizes the support from the legislature and encourages persons with disabilities continue to be involved with the legislature and society.

The memorial resolves that February 23, 2001 be declared "Disability Awareness Day At The Legislature" and that the legislature support disability programs and direct agencies providing services to unite and coordinate more effectively their programs to provide timely, optimum and appropriated services that assist persons with disabilities to live and work independently in their own communities.
