Synopsis of Bill



Hb 876 provides a County with authority to establish a law enforcement crisis intervention services program. The purpose of the program shall be to provide post-traumatic debriefing and counseling services for county sheriffs' officers who have been involved in incidents that may produce personal or job-related depression, anxiety, stress, psychological or emotional tensions, traumas, pressures or disorders.



Significant Issues



The Association of Counties agrees that this is a valuable and needed service.



FISCAL IMPLICATIONS



There is no appropriation for these services, but the Association of Counties believes that these services can be delivered with existing staff. The program can be operated with peer support so the only cost might be some overtime pay.







ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

RELATIONSHIP



Relates to HB 854, Crisis Intervention for Law Enforcement which requires that DPS set up a toll line to offer these services. HB 854 would be a resource that the counties could use to provide crisis intervention services.
