SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

House Bill 805 appropriates $100.0 from the general fund for fiscal years 2001 and 2002 to the New Mexico Office of Indian Affairs to contract to provide public information that promotes cultural understanding and tribal tourism.

Significant Issues

The Tourism Department notes that the Indian Tourism Program within the department already provides such information and would be able to fulfill the requirements of the proposed contract in terms of Indian tourism related surveys, reports and other information. The bill contains an emergency clause.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The appropriation of $100.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
