SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 725 appropriates $27.0 from the general fund to the New Mexico Office of Indian Affairs for the purpose of funding additional teachers and provide computer support and teaching materials for the Taos Pueblo Language Immersion Program.
Significant Issues
The Taos Pueblo Language Immersion Program is focused on teaching children the Tiwa language. According to the agency, there are currently 13 students. The program wishes to expand to serve an additional 64 students, who are kindergarten, first, and second grade students.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $27.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
