SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
HB144 appropriates $25.0 from the General Fund to the Governor's Committee on Concerns of the Handicapped (GCCH). The purpose of the bill is to create a plan to assist in the location of healthy housing for low-income disabled persons with enviromental sensitivties.
Significant Issues
HB144 would assist low-income New Mexicans with disabilities, who are sensitive to the environment, to find and secure "healthy housing". The development of a plan to locate such "healthy housing" would enable many New Mexicans with environmental sensitivity, who are currently homeless living in tents, cars or isolated areas, to live in a home.
GCCH has worked with the MCS Task Force and Healthy Housing Coalition in the past and continues to do so on housing location problems. HB144 would provide GCCH an opportunity to assist in location of "healthy housing" for a very dislocated population and develop and maintain a database of such housing. It would also provide GCCH the opportunity to measure the need for such housing in New Mexico.
