SUMMARY

Synopsis

This bill allows federal judges, justices and magistrates to solemnize marriages in New Mexico.

Significant Issues

Under current law, the only judges, justices or magistrates who can solemnize marriages in New Mexico are state judges, justice and magistrate and municipal and probate judges. This bill will allow federal judges to solemnize marriages.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

Minimal. To the extent federal judges, justices and magistrates are solemnizing marriages that state judges would have been solemnizing, the state judges, justices and magistrates can be working on other court matters.
