Your GOVERNMENT AND URBAN AFFAIRS COMMITTEE, to whom has been referred

HOUSE BILL 593

has had it under consideration and reports same with recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows:

1. On page 3, lines 10 and 11, strike "the appropriate course of study, as authorized by the secretary of public safety" and insert in lieu thereof "a lateral school of instruction, as required pursuant to Section 29-2-16 NMSA 1978, to be conducted by the New Mexico state police training section".

2. On page 3, line 14, after the period insert "All vacancies in the special investigations section shall be filled by New Mexico state police officers.".

3. On page 14, between lines 12 and 13, insert the following subsection:

"D. On July 1, 2001, and for a three-year period thereafter, all agents of the special investigations section of the New Mexico state police division of the department of public safety shall not be allowed to transfer to another section or bureau within the New Mexico state police division. Captains and lieutenants of the special investigations section of the New Mexico state police division of the department of public safety shall not be allowed to transfer at any time to another section or bureau of the New Mexico state police division.".,

and thence referred to the APPROPRIATIONS AND FINANCE COMMITTEE.
