Synopsis of Bill
SB31 appropriates $1,500.0 million to enhance the operation of the Crime Laboratory by adding thirteen permanent FTE and purchase the necessary equipment for the operation of the Crime Laboratory.
Significant Issues
DPS reports the significant issue in the bill is to hire additional personnel and to purchase critical laboratory equipment.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
According to DPS, passage of this bill will result in additional costs for equipment maintenance and operational maintenance. The additional cost can not be determined at this time.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
SB 31 includes funding for an additional thirteen FTE. This was not included in the agency's original submission. DPS reports if SB31 does not pass, case backlogs will continue to increase resulting in case dismissal.
