PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE 2 OF THE CONSTITUTION OF NEW MEXICO BY ADDING SECTION 25 TO PROHIBIT THE REQUIREMENT OF MEMBERSHIP OR NONMEMBERSHIP IN ANY SOCIAL, POLITICAL, LABOR OR RELIGIOUS ORGANIZATION, OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND TO SUCH AN ORGANIZATION AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
Section 1. It is proposed to amend Article 2 of the constitution of New Mexico by adding a new Section 25 to read:
"No person shall be denied the opportunity to obtain or retain employment because of membership or nonmembership in any social, political, labor or religious organization, or be required to make any payment, directly or indirectly, to a social, political, labor or religious organization or for its benefit as a condition of employment. This section shall not prohibit the formation of such organizations and it shall not prohibit collective bargaining on wages, hours or working conditions."
Section 2. The amendment proposed by this resolution shall be submitted to the people for their approval or rejection at the next general election or at any special election prior to that date which may be called for that purpose.
