REQUESTING THE GOVERNOR TO PROCLAIM FEBRUARY 20 THROUGH 27, 2000 AS KIDS LOVE A MYSTERY WEEK.
WHEREAS, knowledge, wisdom and our children are democracy's greatest assets; and
WHEREAS, books enable one generation to pass on its knowledge and wisdom to the next; and
WHEREAS, learning to read is one of the greatest privileges this country extends to its children; and
WHEREAS, the love of reading is a value to be encouraged; and
WHEREAS, children most often choose mystery stories as their favorite type of book; and
WHEREAS, kids love a mystery week, hosted by mystery writers of america and MysteryNet.com, encourages literacy and the love of reading;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the governor be requested to proclaim February 20 through 27, 2000 as kids love a mystery week and urge every citizen to support this celebration of books and reading for children; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the governor.
