REQUESTING THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION TO PROVIDE FOR ECONOMIC EDUCATION INSTRUCTION AND OTHER BUSINESS-RELATED TRAINING TO ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS IN THE STATE.
WHEREAS, New Mexico has one of the lowest per capita incomes of the United States; and
WHEREAS, business development is essential for the future economic growth and production of jobs in New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, few people finish public school with an understanding of or training in business;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state department of public education be requested to allocate fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) of its fiscal year 2001 appropriation for economic education instruction and other business-related training to elementary and secondary public school teachers in the state; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the state board of education and the superintendent of public instruction.
