RECOGNIZING STATE OF NEW MEXICO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY STAFF FOR THEIR DILIGENCE AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE STATE'S SUCCESSFUL Y2K EFFORTS.
WHEREAS, the "millennium bug" had the potential to impede the state's ability to provide essential public services; and
WHEREAS, Y2K problems had the potential to cause negative economic impact on the state of New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, information technology staff throughout state government demonstrated extra effort by canceling vacations, working nights and weekends and sacrificing much of their personal life; and
WHEREAS, in doing so, they corrected a number of problems that would have resulted in loss of public services if not identified and corrected; and
WHEREAS, due in large part to the hard work of information technology staff, the state's computer systems successfully transitioned into the new millennium;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that information technology staff in state government be recognized for their extraordinary efforts; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor and all cabinet secretaries.
