FOR THE WELFARE REFORM OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
REQUESTING THAT JOINT USE OF STATE AND FEDERALLY FUNDED VEHICLES, BUSES AND OTHER PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SERVICES BE DEVELOPED BY DEPARTMENTS AND AGENCIES OF THE STATE.
WHEREAS, public transportation services are vital to the economic self-sufficiency of New Mexico Works Act program participants; and
WHEREAS, coordinated public transportation services have proven to be cost-efficient; and
WHEREAS, the state highway and transportation department, the labor department, the state department of public education, the human services department, the children, youth and families department, the department of health and the state agency on aging have begun to coordinate New Mexico Works Act program implementation; and
WHEREAS, those departments must also work together to provide cost-effective and thorough coordinated public transportation services for New Mexico Works Act program participants and their children;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF the STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state highway and transportation department, the labor department, the state department of public education, the human services department, the children, youth and families department, the department of health and the state agency on aging be urged to enter into a memorandum of understanding to coordinate joint use by all programs in need of transporting New Mexico Works Act program participants and other clients requiring state subsidized transportation of their existing state and federally funded vans, buses and other public transportation services; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the secretaries of highway and transportation, labor, human services, health and children, youth and families; the superintendent of public education; and the director of the state agency on aging.
