REQUESTING THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE COURTS TO STUDY THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH PROVIDING AN ADDITIONAL MAGISTRATE DIVISION IN RIO ARRIBA COUNTY.
WHEREAS, there are currently two magistrates located in Rio Arriba magistrate district; and
WHEREAS, the two magistrates in Rio Arriba county operate divisions 1 and 2 as a single district court in Espanola; and
WHEREAS, the two Rio Arriba county magistrates rotate a riding circuit to Chama; and
WHEREAS, the magistrate case load in Rio Arriba county has undergone a substantial increase; and
WHEREAS, the increased magistrate case load has made it difficult for the two magistrates to provide regular services to the northern segment of Rio Arriba county; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the increased case load there is a need for an additional magistrate district, division 3, operating as a single court to be located in Chama to service the northern portion of Rio Arriba county on a permanent basis;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the administrative office of the courts conduct a study of the costs associated with providing an additional magistrate division operating as a single court in Chama; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the director of the administrative office of the courts report to the appropriate interim committee by October 2000 about the results of the study; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the director of the administrative office of the courts and the chairman of the appropriate legislative interim committee.
