A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE UNITED STATES FOREST SERVICE AND CONGRESS TO CREATE A JOB CORPS TRAINING CENTER IN CUBA, NEW MEXICO.



WHEREAS, Cuba, New Mexico is ideally located to provide training to young people in natural resource conservation and forestry; and

WHEREAS, the region is burdened by high unemployment and few opportunities for young people; and

WHEREAS, stakeholders in the area have enthusiastically endorsed a proposal by the village of Cuba and the Cuba ranger district of the Santa Fe national forest to establish a job corps training center in Cuba; and

WHEREAS, this center would provide learning opportunities, jobs and positive role models for young people in need of better choices;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the United States forest service and the congress be requested to establish a job corps training center in Cuba, New Mexico; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the chief of the United States forest service and to the New Mexico congressional delegation.
