A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING SUPPORT FOR THE BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO.



WHEREAS, over the years, the state legislature of New Mexico has supported and appropriated thousands of dollars to various boys and girls clubs across the state; and

WHEREAS, the boys and girls clubs provide a safe place to learn and grow; ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals; life-enhancing programs and character development experiences, hope and opportunity; and

WHEREAS, the mission of the boys and girls clubs is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens; and

WHEREAS, the United States congress, through the justice department, has recognized the work being done by boys and girls clubs throughout America, to the level of appropriating fifty million dollars ($50,000,000) to the boys and girls club of America, bringing the total to over one hundred fifty million dollars ($150,000,000) over the last five years; and

WHEREAS, the boys and girls clubs of America will allocate over seven hundred fifty thousand dollars ($750,000) to support the startup and ongoing operations of boys and girls clubs throughout the state;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that it recognize the impact that boys and girls clubs throughout the state are having on our youth; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the members of the New Mexico congressional delegation.
