SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
This bill creates the Navajo Code Talker Scholarship Fund; the Fund shall be invested and distributed by the CHE. The CHE will promulgate rules to implement the program. Eligible Native American students will attend the state's public post-secondary institutions or a New Mexico campus or branch created by an Indian nation, tribe or pueblo, or by the federal government.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $500.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY01 shall not revert to the general fund.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
The CHE notes minimal impact.
RELATIONSHIP
This bill relates to House Bill 475.
OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES
According to the CHE, resident Native American students are eligible to apply for any of the state funded financial aid programs.
