Synopsis of Bill

Senate Memorial 30 requests that the New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) change its policies to improve its accountability and responsiveness to its members and to the public.

Significant Issues

The memorial requests that the NMAA and its Executive Director institute changes in association policies which address the concerns enumerated in the memorial's recitals:

• make meetings and financial records accessible to the public,



• improve activities to inform public of meetings scheduled,



• simplify and clarify the association's rules,



• develop a fair and equitable systems for assigning officials to athletic events as means of retaining qualified officials,

• develop alternate financing options for NMAA activities to relieve the burden on member schools and secure stability and solvency of the association, and



• institute changes in its operations to improve the association's responsiveness and accountability to the public.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

Review of policies and rules is conducted periodically. It is therefore assumed that any costs to comply with the memorial's request are part of an ongoing process and will be borne by NMAA.

ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS

NMAA staff and its board are requested to implement the request.
