SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 326 provides for confidentiality of proprietary information obtained by the Economic Development Department.

Significant Issues

The bill amends previous law, which allowed information obtained by the Science & Technology Division that is deemed necessary by the director to be confidential technical or business information. This bill broadens the law to the entire department and the Secretary of Economic Development.

The agency indicates that without the ability to agree to confidentiality, about 30 percent of prospects will refuse to work with the department.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS

The bill has no appropriation or fiscal impact to the agency.
