SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Memorial 5 requests that the Legislative Education Committee (LESC) study the potential danger and cost implications of transporting students in vehicles not meeting school bus design and construction standards.
Significant Issues
Some concerns have been voiced concerning the transporting of students to inter-scholastic activities in vehicles other than school buses. The memorial is based on statistics showing that children are better protected in vehicles designed as school buses and cites the State Board of Education's regulation that allows the use of two types of vehicles other than a school bus to transport to school activities.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
None apparent.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
LESC staff will conduct the study.
