SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
The memorial requests the Health Policy Commission (HPC) study the municipal water supplies in New Mexico to determine which supplies have optimum levels of fluoridation and make recommendations regarding issues of fluoridation.
Significant Issues
The Department of Health (DOH) indicates 65% of New Mexico's municipal water supplies are fluoridated compared to the federally recommended amount of 75%. DOH indicates fluoridation is most cost effective for communities with populations over 2,500.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
HPC indicates it does not have the funding to do the work requested in the memorial unless it delayed other projects with which it is currently engaged.
