SUMMARY



Synopsis of Bill



House Bill 437 appropriates $80.0 from the general fund to the New Mexico Office of Indian Affairs to assess the feasibility of business development sites in the Mexican Springs area of McKinley County.



Significant Issues



The feasibility study proposed in House Bill 437 would include producing a master plan, market survey, conceptual site design, business plan and a financial plan.



Mexican Springs has is located in the northwest corner of New Mexico approximately 19 miles north of Gallup. The community is surrounded by seven other Navajo Nation chapters. According to the Navajo Nation, no study has been undertaken to assess the development of the area and there are currently no businesses in the area.



FISCAL IMPLICATIONS



The $80.0 appropriation in House Bill 437 is for expenditure during fiscal year 2001. Unexpended or unencumbered balances remaining at the end of the fiscal year shall revert to the general fund.
