SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
HB292 appropriates $62.1 from the general fund to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to pay salaries and benefits in FY2001 for two special agents to conduct investigations and enforce the provisions of the Liquor Control Act. Any unencumbered or unexpended balances remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 revert to the general fund.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
DPS reports HB292 provides for salaries and benefits but does not address related costs such as vehicles and equipment that must be absorbed by the department.
OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES
DPS reports the addition of two FTE will enhance the overall effectiveness of alcohol and gaming enforcement. Without the two positions, the Alcohol and Gaming Enforcement Section will continue to experience difficulty in providing enforcement services on a statewide basis.
LFC files show these two positions were not requested in the agency budget submission.
