SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 285 amends the Election Code, primarily clarifying technical points.
Significant Issues
The bill stipulates that those that have voted absentee in the two-week period preceding the period when registration is closed cannot make or change political party affiliation. In addition, the bill stipulates that the package that is sent to the Secretary of State after returns are counted should contain one copy of the tally sheet that was used. In relation to the ballot, the bill changes the mark in which a voter makes to vote from an X or a check to completing an arrow at the right of the name of the candidate.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
No appropriation or fiscal impact is associated with this bill.
