AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO ESTABLISH A STATEWIDE PARENTING EDUCATION PROGRAM.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One million five hundred thousand dollars ($1,500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico state university for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 for the purpose of establishing a statewide parenting education program. The program shall include participation by the parenting education program at New Mexico state university and the women, infants and children program of the department of health and shall, to the maximum extent possible, provide education and employment for persons who have participated in or are part of the temporary assistance for needy families program. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
