AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR COMMUNITY-ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Ten million dollars ($10,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the local government division of the department of finance and administration for expenditure in fiscal years 2001 and 2002 to provide grants for community-oriented policing services. Money from the appropriation may be used by local governments to hire and equip law enforcement personnel, to purchase and maintain crime-fighting technology and to support other community policing initiatives. The local government division shall work closely with the department of public safety as the division develops grant applications and evaluates proposals for awards. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
